Dinty Child is a longtime member of the Boston roots/folk scene. A fearless multi-instrumentalist he can most often be seen with the band Session Americana, as well as the Chandler Travis Philharmonic, and as sensitive sideman to any number of singer/songwriters, including Rose Cousins and Kris Delmhorst. Around the Narrows he is maybe even more infamous for fronting the legendary twenty piece party band, the Funky White Honkies during their annual sold out dance fests. Many people know that Dinty is a great songwriter, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that he finally put out the first album, Lucky Ones, under his own name. He is bringing a full band to our stage to play those songs and more. Continue reading

What do you get when you combine a crooning bluegrass mandolin master, a veteran bassist, a fiddler who plays through fuzz boxes and wah-wah pedals, sounding more like Jimi Hendrix than Papa John Creach, and a big band swing drummer who inexplicably feels moved to pound the skins harder than John Bonham on a bender? Do you call it country, folk, bluegrass, rock ‘n’ roll, or maybe just a freak of nature?
Just call it Wooden Leg, and give the group room to do its thing. It’s much safer that way. These cats rock. Continue reading

With a collection of 21 albums, it’s no wonder Gary Hoey is listed as one of the top 100 guitarists of all time. Whether he’s playing scorching originals or classic rock covers, his solos are thrilling and reminiscent of Clapton or Stevie Ray in their fiery youth. One thing that remains consistent is Hoey’s impassioned command of the guitar. He can attack his instrument with feral intensity and then play something very soft and achingly beautiful. This ability to mix feeling, phrasing, technique and tone is the true mark of a master guitarist. Continue reading
