The Fall River area in Massachusetts has been home to a large piece of the history of textiles in New England. This exhibition will encompass the history of the area and it’s connection to textiles – then and now.
The art on display for the exhibit will be a juried selection of textile work that will compliment the rich history of textiles in New England with the dynamic expression of current textile design in one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces.
MODERN SPIN: CONtemporary TEXTiles in an Historic Mill will also showcase highlights of the history of textile manufacturing in the Fall River area including historical information about the industry, contributing jobs and economic growth to the area, and the people who came to work in the industry and how they contributed to the ‘fabric of America.’
Guest Juror: Providence RI artist Jules of Heron Pond Studio
Jules creates relief prints. Her favorite method for printing her creations is on cloth. Her work with textiles has informed her of the immense depth and breadth of textile art – the mix of old methods and crafts still employed today by textile artists right along side the new methods supported by technology and fiber discoveries. Jules has maintained Heron Pond Studio since 1991 all the while producing art, teaching classes, and sharing space with visiting artists.
