ARTIST STATEMENT
Marc St. Pierre

The grid is a strategic and basic layer. It is a foundation that creates a structure capable of moving the eye from a deep space to a shallow space within the same picture plane. It is also the visual reference for the geometric forms, big or small, that echo through the many layers of the work. It is the basic building block of my constructed spaces.
As the drawing process evolves, a variety of shapes and linear elements, less mechanical and predictable in nature, are introduced. This provides a counterpoint to the precision associated with the geometry and takes me in a more intuitive direction. This dialogue is the essence of my work and I see in it the inner workings of other natural systems.
